What's In A Number?

We are surrounded by numbers. Whether we are remembering a loved one's birthday or an anniversary, a score on a test, or the passcode to our office login, numbers are highly intertwined in our lives.

For me, numbers took on a whole new meaning after my daughter Sia transitioned. I am focused on the estimated 18.9 million people in the United States who suffer from a deadly type of stroke that causes bleeding in the brain called ICH or an Intracerebral Brain Hemorrhage. This deadly type of stroke has been increasing in the U.S., growing at an even faster rate among younger to middle-aged adults than older ones.

So, when I think of these numbers, I then start to think of the number of folks our foundation needs to educate about brain health and awareness of brain hemorrhages. Not to mention those endless numbers of family members dealing with the after-effects whether their loved ones survived or not. Also those endless numbers on a medical bill that will come through the mail even if a loved one did not survive.

So, now what is a mother to do with tackling these endless numbers? I need my neighbors and their neighbors and their neighbors to help me increase our funding numbers and the number of people we educate on brain health.

I invite you to join me in looking at numbers in your life in a whole new way. When you tuck your children in at night, count your blessings and then add any leftover coins or dollars to a "Count Your Numbers & Blessings" jar. Have a good day at your work, received a pay raise, praise God, and then add to your jar. Your child scored a perfect grade on their homework, celebrate with them and let them add to your jar.

August kicks off our campaign to demonstrate and celebrate the power of numbers. You can either create your own jar or reach out to me and I will provide you with a "Count Your Numbers & Blessings" jar.

As individuals it may appear that our efforts are in vain, however, the "Count Your Numbers and Blessings" jar is another way to reach out in support of helping others with much-needed awareness, education on adverse brain conditions, and medical science scholarships.

Together we need to make all the number of lives we lost to brain-related injuries or illness count. Money raised will benefit the educational efforts of the Sia Brain Awareness Scholarship Foundation, Inc. Let's start counting today!

2 Corinthians 4:7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.

Together, we will make a difference.
